Americans with Disabilities Act

On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed into law the ADA, a comprehensive civil rights law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability.  The ADA law broadly protects the rights of individuals with disabilities in employment, access to State and local government services, places of public accommodation, transportation and other important areas of American life.  The ADA law also requires newly designed and constructed or altered State and local government facilities, public accommodations and commercial facilities to be readily accessible to and usable by individual with disabilities.

The ADA requires that the City of Mount Pleasant, Tennessee communicate effectively and provide services to people who have disabilities. The City of Mount Pleasant wants to ensure that people with a disability can communicate with, receive information from, and convey information to all departments within the City.

The City will provide auxiliary aids and services when needed to communicate effectively with people who have communication disabilities. In addition, the City will provide effective communication for companions who have communication disabilities.

If you need assistance in participating in a meeting or event due to a disability as defined under the ADA, please call the Mount Pleasant's ADA Coordinator (Sonya Anderson) at (931) 379-7717 EXT 115 or e-mail lalderson@mtpleasant-tn.gov at least three (3) business days prior to the scheduled meeting or event to request an accommodation.  Walk in requests for aids and services will be honored to the extent possible.
